B.C. resident gets $500, 000 Yuletide miracle

Bonnie Marchand of British Columbia had a Yuletide miracle when she won $500,000 on the lottery.  This retired mother of two is worried about what gifts she would give to her family as Christmas is fast approaching until she won that prize.

Bonnie usually depends on her sewing skills for gifts, but her rickety machine was already broken.
She purchased a Lotto 6/49 ticket worth $5 at Zoo Ice Cream Parlour in downtown Kamloops. Although she did not win the Lotto 6/49 jackpot, she took home a staggering amount for a consolation prize.

Bonnie was lucky to match all four numbers on the Extra, which gave her that amount.

“It was a relief.  My main concern was I needed a new machine,” she said.

A new machine was the first item she bought after she cashed her half-million dollar check.

She said she has been playing the Extra after her uncle matched four numbers in 1996. She did not expect, though, that the day will come when she would match four numbers too.

The 59-year-old woman said she has no major plans for her windfall yet. Bonnie, however, purchased a new truck for each of her two grown sons, while the rest of her money was banked.

Some friends keep asking Bonnie if she is interested to purchase a new fancy home, but she said she is not interested.

“I don’t think so because I’m by myself and I’m comfortable in this building I’m in,” she narrated.

At the day she purchased a ticket, she had been contemplating whether to purchase a loaf of bread or the lottery ticket. She said purchasing a ticket was a good choice that day.

This holiday season might be the best time of the year for B.C. residents to try their luck and purchase a ticket as last Christmas, a pair of residents won a Lotto 6/49 jackpot and a $500,000 Extra prize.
