‘Nobody deserves this more,’ boss of Lotto Max jackpot winners says

Many lottery jackpot winners head off to the nearest mall or a car dealership or realtor once they knew they won.

This is not the case for Linda and Don Ingram, the winners of the recent $50-million Lotto Max jackpot. What the couple did was to go to Wally’s World, the old fashioned restaurant in Oshawa where they worked for almost 15 years. Don and Linda settled into a booth and give their co-workers a big hug and ordered pop.

Linda said: “Where else would we go ... this is where all our friends are.” Her husband Don nodded in approval.

Linda added that they would not be working that day because they were still recovering from flu.
Wally Elawar, the owner of the restaurant, said that the couple is just like that.

“I’ve known them for years and years and nobody deserves this more than these two.  They are simple, down-to-earth and good people,” he said.

Linda, age 59, and Don, age 53, have never owned a house and they have been struggling to pay their electric bills because of Don’s health issues.

The big windfall changed everything.

Linda has been consistent for the past ten years to purchase lottery tickets from the same convenience store near their apartment building. The day before the draw, she purchased four Lotto Max tickets. The day after the draw, Linda went to the same store to check the Lotto Max winning numbers if she had won anything. She and her husband have only won free tickets in the past.

The clerk at the store checked her tickets, and then the screen froze. Linda thought that it only happens if there is a big win. After 20 minutes, someone from Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation called.

That was how Linda discovered that she won $50 million. Linda said she almost passed out when she knew she won the jackpot. She went screaming, jumping up and down at the convenience store and racing home towards their home to tell the news to her husband.

Don said that he did not believe his wife first. He told his wife to prove that they really won the jackpot.
When his wife finally convinced Don, they just lay down on the bed, hold each other’s hand and giggled.
“It’s such a big chunk of money.  What are you supposed to do with it?” Don added.

What the Ingrams wanted right now is to make their kids and grandkids to be happy. The couple has a son and daughter who live in Oshawa.

Don and Linda want to purchase a nice house with a pool and a big shed. They said they might purchase one in Brampton because Don likes that community.

“We just don’t want to pay rent any longer and live a comfortable life.  “We have dreamed of owning our house for a very long time. For all the 36 years that we have been married,” said Linda.

But the plans of the couple will be executed later as both of them still plan to work at Wally’s World.
Linda said to their co-workers that they are not quitting.

“We are absolutely coming back to work here ... at least for the next few months. As soon as this flu goes away,” she added.

Friday’s Lotto Max jackpot remains at $50 million, no lucky winner for 11-11-11 draw

The day 11-11-11 proved not to be a lucky day for Lotto Max player as nobody won the $50 million jackpot last Friday.

Although many players believed that the date is mystical and that it is a day of luck, the jackpot worth $50 million was not won by any player. In addition, the two MaxMillions prizes worth a million dollar each were not won.

When some lottery players were asked what they would do with the windfall when they won the Lotto Max jackpot, here are some of the responses:

A man at Yonge and Bloor told that he would probably go on vacation and travel the world. A woman, however, said that she would spend the money less on traditional purposes.

"I would probably not invest it in material things. I'd like to empower women. I'd do some sort of program or house for women," she said to an interview with 680News.

A certain Eddie at Yonge and Bloor prefers to purchase a bigger house for himself, a cottage and an Ashton Martin. He also plans to be responsible with his windfall.

"I'd try to obviously spend it wisely, I don't want to be one of those guys you hear about in the news that they blew their money in like a year and now they're broke," Eddie told.
Majority of people said that they would want to take care of their family first, but a man said he would not be able to make the life of his children luxurious.

"I will be a simple person always and my kids will always have the same allowance they have," told Ravi.

When the big question was asked whether you would stay at your job or not if you won the jackpot, a woman told that she would a copy of her winning ticket to work from a beach in Greece.

Lotto 6/49 $90K winner credits security after his windfall

The winner says he has been playing the same lotto numbers for 25 years and he has not been successful in taking home the jackpot but only few bucks here and there.

But recently, the 61-year-old winner is giving credits to lottery security measure for letting him claim his Lotto 6/49 winnings of more than $90,000 after a gas bar clerk allegedly stole his winning ticket and tried to claim it as his own.

The winner said in an interview “Hats off to Manitoba Lotteries — they certainly did their job.” He preferred not to be identified.

The Winnipeg police narrated that a man purchased a lottery ticket on July 14 that was valid for five draws. After not winning any prize for the first two draws, the old man went to the gas bar to check his tickets. The gas bar is in the Maples.

The clerk scanned the ticket and told the old man that he won $5. The clerk then returned the validation slip and handed the old man his $5, but allegedly kept the winning ticket, which was still valid for two more days.

The old said that he thought the ticket was done.

The next week the lucky ticket of the old man won a staggering $90,641.40. Police said that the culprit went to the lottery office on August 2 to claim the prize. The Western Canada Lottery Corporation notified Manitoba Lotteries because of some inconsistencies. An investigation was launched after.

The old man said that the lottery officials knew that the ticket belonged to him. He said that he does wonder and that somehow the suspect simply committed a mistake.

“It might have been an error on his part,” the old man said.

The old man said that when he learned about the windfall, he was pretty excited and surprised. He plans to purchase a new car and spend some on projects around his home.

The old man said he preferred not to follow the criminal case procedure as it goes through the courts.

“It has nothing to do with me,” the real lottery winner said.

Ashwinder Singh, 31, was officially charged this week with theft under $5,000 and fraud over $5,000. He will go to court on November 22.
