Brampton, Ontario resident takes home $3.4 Million with Lotto 6/49

John Anthony Pereira could not believe what he saw when he checked his lottery numbers for the August 20, 2011 Lotto 6/49 draw. His winning become the second most remarkable moment of his life when only two short years ago, he was unsure if he could see his 75th birthday, after waiting for almost eight years for the right kidney for his transplant.

He joyfully remarked: “I woke up early and checked my numbers on the computer. When I saw I had a match for all numbers, I went to wake up my daughter and ask her to double check for me. When she confirmed it, I woke up everyone else in the house to share the good news.”

He relayed that the rest of the day went normal for the Pereira family doing the regular household chores, running errands and going out for dinner like it was a normal Sunday.

Pereira’s daughter said: ‘We were just waiting for the Toronto Prize Office to open on Monday morning, so we could get here and make it official for my dad!” His daughter drove to Toronto to assist her father in claiming the prize.

Pereira recently moved in to Brampton. He is a grandfather of five. He said that that has not slowed him down and he has already some things in mind on how to spend his winnings.

“First I’m going to get the cheque in the bank and then make major decisions. However, I would really like to get a new car as soon as I can, and then take a trip back to India with my family for a visit,” he said. Pereira moved from Bombay to Canada 35 years ago.

The winning ticket of this lucky man was purchased at North Park Variety on Torbram Road in Brampton.
